Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Tide Chart & Fishing Times app ("Tide Chart", "the app") handles information. Tide Chart is available on Apple platforms only.

Tide Chart has no user accounts, no advertising, and no analytics SDK. Your spots and settings are stored on your device. The app's privacy manifest declares no tracking and no collected data types.

1. Who is responsible

Tide Chart is published by an individual developer trading as Kraus. For any privacy question or request, contact support@kraus.studio.

2. Information stored on your device

The app stores the following on your device, in a container shared with its widgets so they can display the same data:

  • the tide stations you have saved as spots, and which one is selected
  • your unit preference (feet or metres)
  • your alert and offline preferences
  • your chosen water activity and what you told the app you care about most
  • whether you have completed onboarding
  • your purchase entitlement status
  • cached tide predictions for your saved spots

This information is not transmitted to us. We do not operate a server that stores your spots, settings, or usage.

3. Tide data requests (NOAA)

To show a tide curve, the app requests predictions directly from the NOAA CO-OPS public API at api.tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov. Each request contains the tide station identifier, the date range, the datum, and the units — nothing about you.

As with any internet request, NOAA's servers receive your device's IP address and standard connection metadata. That processing is governed by NOAA's and the U.S. Department of Commerce's own policies, not ours. We receive no copy of those requests.

4. Location

During setup, Tide Chart can offer to find the tide stations nearest to you. If you allow it, iOS provides your approximate position to the app under the "while using the app" permission. The app requests only kilometre-level accuracy — it never asks for a precise fix.

Your coordinates are never sent to us or to anyone else. The app downloads NOAA's public list of tide stations, which contains no information about you, and then sorts that list by distance on your device. The result is a list of nearby station names; your position is not included in any network request, is not saved to disk, and is not shared with NOAA, Superwall, or any other party.

Granting location is optional. You can decline and search for a station by name or by station identifier instead, and you can withdraw the permission at any time in iOS Settings without losing your saved spots.

5. Paywall and offers (Superwall)

Tide Chart uses Superwall to present and manage its purchase offers. When the paywall is shown, Superwall processes an anonymous, device-level identifier together with events about the offer, such as which paywall was displayed, which option was presented, and whether a purchase or dismissal followed.

So that the offer matches how you plan to use the app, Tide Chart also passes a small set of the onboarding answers listed in Section 2 to Superwall: your selected activity, what you said you care about most, your chosen home station, your unit preference, and whether you turned alerts and offline caching on.

This information is not linked to your name or email, is not used for advertising, and is not used to track you across other companies' apps or websites. Superwall acts as our processor for this purpose. See superwall.com/privacy.

6. Purchases (Apple)

Tide Chart offers auto-renewing subscriptions and a one-time purchase. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. We never receive or store your card number, bank details, or Apple Account password.

The app reads the transaction status Apple provides in order to unlock the app and to restore a previous purchase on a new device. Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

7. Notifications

If you enable tide alerts, they are scheduled locally by iOS on your device. Tide Chart does not operate a push notification server, and no alert content is sent to us or to any third party.

8. No advertising, no tracking, no analytics

Tide Chart shows no third-party advertising. It does not use the device advertising identifier, does not present App Tracking Transparency prompts, and does not integrate an analytics SDK. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not disclose it to data brokers.

9. Children

Tide Chart is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

10. Retention

Data stored on your device stays there until you delete it in the app or remove the app. Removing the app deletes its stored spots, settings, and cached predictions. Purchase records are retained by Apple under Apple's policies. Anonymous paywall events are retained by Superwall under its own retention schedule.

11. Legal bases

Where the GDPR applies, we process the limited data described above on the basis of our legitimate interest in delivering, securing and improving the app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), and, for the performance of a purchase you request, on the basis of contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

12. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

Because Tide Chart keeps your data on your device and holds no account, most of that data is already under your direct control. For anything else, write to support@kraus.studio with "Privacy Request" in the subject line. We aim to respond within 30 days.

13. International transfers

Requests for tide predictions are served by NOAA in the United States. Apple and Superwall may process purchase and paywall data in the United States and other countries under their own safeguards. If you use the app outside your country of residence, this processing takes place wherever those providers operate.

14. Security

All network requests the app makes use encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Your spots and settings are protected by the operating system's app sandbox and device encryption. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.

15. Third parties we rely on

  • Apple — app distribution, purchases, local notification delivery
  • Superwall — presenting and measuring purchase offers
  • NOAA CO-OPS — the public tide prediction API

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above, and, where a new version changes what data the app handles, before that version is released.
